Frequently asked questions about in-home gerontological support
Find answers here to the most common questions from families, family carers, and home-care agencies.
What is home-based gerontological support?
Home-based gerontological support is specialised support for elderly people, delivered in their own homes, drawing on non-pharmacological approaches to stimulate preserved abilities, encourage independence and support their quality of life. At GéroStim-Expertise, it is designed in particular for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease or related conditions.
It begins with an initial evaluation, followed by personalised workshops or periods of enhanced support, coordinated with family carers and home-care providers.
Do your services replace medical care?
No. GéroStim-Expertise services complement home care: they do not constitute medical treatment and replace neither medical procedures, nor regulated nursing care, nor routine follow-up by the individual's healthcare professionals. They aim to provide stimulation, encourage independence, promote well-being and maintain social connection.
Emergencies and medical care fall within the remit of qualified professionals and services: in an emergency, call 15 or 112.
What is a home-based PASA workshop? How does it differ from a PASA in a care home?
The home-based PASA workshop is a 2-hour session inspired by the approaches of a Pôle d'Activités et de Soins Adaptés (PASA), but delivered in the individual's own home. It is not an institutional PASA: a PASA is a dedicated service within care homes, whereas the home-based workshop adapts some of its methods into an individual session.
The workshop brings together cognitive stimulation, functional independence and mobility activities, alongside opportunities for self-expression and well-being.
How does the initial evaluation work? Is it a diagnosis?
The initial evaluation is a 1.5-hour gerontological assessment in the home, used to identify preserved cognitive and functional abilities, observe daily routines and interests, and identify helpful adaptations to the living environment. It is not a medical diagnosis.
It results in a recommendations report provided to the agency and authorised relatives, alongside a timetable of tailored workshops.
How often should workshops be arranged?
For the home-based PASA workshop, one to two 2-hour sessions per week are recommended. The exact frequency is determined with you following the initial evaluation, based on the person's needs, their pace, and the goals set out in their personalised plan.
This schedule can then be adjusted over time as support progresses.
Do you operate in Monaco? Which towns on the French Riviera do you cover?
Yes, GéroStim-Expertise operates in Monaco and across the French Riviera, by appointment, from its base in Cagnes-sur-Mer (06800).
To find out if your town is covered, the easiest way is to call me or message me on WhatsApp.
What should I do if my relative experiences agitation or disorientation?
In cases of agitation or disorientation, it is often helpful to maintain a calm tone, reassure the person, and reduce surrounding sources of stimulation. GéroStim-Expertise offers enhanced support of at least 3 consecutive hours for these periods, based on adapted communication and a reassuring presence.
If the situation presents an immediate danger or involves a medical issue, please contact the appropriate emergency services: dial 15 or 112.
Do you offer respite for family carers?
Yes. During enhanced support (a minimum of 3 consecutive hours), I stay by your relative's side with a reassuring presence and appropriate activities, allowing you to take some respite. The home-based workshops also offer moments when you can take time for yourself.
The schedule is agreed together, according to your needs.
Who provides the support in the home?
Services are delivered by DIATTA Nestor Ambroise, founder of GéroStim-Expertise, Gerontology Care Assistant (ASG) and state-registered care assistant. Depending on requirements, GéroStim-Expertise plans to collaborate with a psychologist, a nurse, a psychomotor therapist, a physiotherapist or another ASG, each within their scope of practice.
These professionals work in close coordination with home-care providers.
How can a home-care agency work with GéroStim-Expertise?
Home-care agencies can sub-contract the gerontological support of their clients to GéroStim-Expertise. The collaboration follows four stages: assessing the request and individual needs, defining realistic goals, scheduling sessions, followed by ongoing monitoring, handover notes and adjustments.
Agency pricing and terms (travel, contract) are available upon request.
What are your rates?
GéroStim-Expertise rates are provided upon request, as they depend on the service chosen, the frequency of sessions, and the overall care framework. For home-care agencies, specific pricing and partnership terms are provided upon request.
